Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
