Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
