Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
