Citizens have gathered around the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-conducted assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as negotiations advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The incident saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are seen as trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our bloodthirsty enemies have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will never again create a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state commemorations until 16 October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still were held around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people killed in the Hamas assault was held in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the victims' relatives, it was aired across Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a silent tribute was observed around the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' delegations met in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the provisions of the agreement.

A senior delegate knowledgeable about the discussions revealed that an night meeting of mediated discussions started at 7 PM local time.

The source explained the day's discussions ended without tangible results, amid conflicting views over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have not yet achieve any major advancement," but pointed out that intermediaries are striving to close the gaps between the both parties.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The trade of the captives still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid provision
  • After-conflict management of the region

Citizen Feeling

In the city's memorial area earlier, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother lived through the assault on the gathering, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were captured by Hamas fighters - shared: "No place seems like home anymore and until each abducted person come back none of us will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence recover," she concluded.

In front of the leader's residence in the capital, people gathered to express their backing for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Protester Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the hostages to come back home. But we really want promises that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of Israeli citizens desire the war to end in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the music event, mourners gathered to remember the victims.

From that location, the noise of military attacks and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the heavy Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were documented in the morning of that day in the western Tal al-Hawa, sector and Nasr districts and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"When the dusk arrives, the fear appears with it," evacuated urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike last year, explained.

"We are fearful of the bombings. All the night we are sleeping together, clinging, particularly my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be finalized and that the fighting will return to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area reported it had taken in the corpses of half dozen people by the afternoon, including several killed in an Israeli strike in the south part district.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis reported additional dead people had been delivered. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while seeking help to the southern area, medical staff said.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
