Jets Head Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities shared video stills Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since learning of the incident. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in March and was projected as a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with New York in March.
