Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
