The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
