Two Men Arrested Over Mobile Device Hidden in Commons to Reportedly Broadcast Sex Noises At PMQs

Police have arrested two men related to a mobile phone found concealed within the House of Commons, which was allegedly intended to play sex noises during the prime minister’s questions.

Discovery and Investigation

This phone was located near the government benches during a routine sweep of the chamber. It is believed it was meant to interrupt the keynote weekly showdown between political leaders in the autumn month.

An official spokesperson stated, “At 10.25 on that specific date, a mobile phone was discovered while conducting a standard inspection of the House of Commons chamber.”

Arrests and Allegations

Investigations led officers to believe that the phone was purposely positioned in a location with the aim of creating interference to proceedings in the house.

  • An individual in his 30s was arrested on that Friday on suspected grounds of trying to deliberately cause a public nuisance.
  • A second person in his sixties was taken into custody on Tuesday 30 September on allegations of the same offence.
  • Both have been bailed to return at a later date.

Security Measures and Consequences

Heightened security measures were implemented in the House of Commons after the device was discovered. Audio tours and escorted visits were cancelled, and there was reduced access to the main hall.

The House of Lords followed suit to reduce access to the Lords Chamber “for safety reasons.”

Officials added, “Investigations remain ongoing, and we continue to keep the parliamentary officials informed with our probe.”

Seriousness of the Incident

This incident is being treated seriously as it constitutes a major breach of legislative safety. The phone was located while numerous security staff based in the parliamentary area were on strike over wages and terms.

Consequently, visitors were banned from the parliamentary estate. The union stated that the work stoppage proceeded due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, stagnant pay, and an wage disparity based on race.
