Unbowed Celtic's manager insists he is not worried about dismissal but the Parkhead faithful show anger following defeat.
Wilfried Nancy stated he did not fear the sack, claiming, “The team is extremely close to a turnaround,” even after moving dangerously close to the chopping block with a heavy loss to the Ibrox side.
Another Capitulation Leads to Derby Disaster
Celtic were in front their oldest rivals at the break but a disastrous second period let the Gers to draw level on points with the defending league title holders. The former MLS manager, who was brought in from Columbus Crew, has now overseen six losses in his last eight games.
“We are together at the club,” insisted Nancy.
Pressed on his own future, he replied: “That’s not my focus. My focus is on working out methods to aid my players to be good on the fine details.
Supporters' Anger Erupts
Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – directed at the hierarchy – by protesting at full time. Club directors are reportedly likely to return to the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period previously, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. However when I say that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. Not at all. My point is we are really close, extremely close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach highlights the fact Celtic play well for one half at a time. In fact, were it not for missed chances they might have been better than 1-0 up. “There were positives other than the fact that we missed more goals,” he said. “I know that we lost, but I must remain balanced.
“The level we had at times was exceptionally high. This is the reality. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was different. But that’s why, regarding outcomes, I noted we've seen this before. Which is why I feel we are really close to a shift in fortunes. Currently: the fine margins.”
“There were many, many good things that we did, once more. The issue now comes down to consistency. My narrative would change if it was not the case. This is why I am a big believer we will manage to get back on track.”
Röhl’s Cautious Stance
Danny Röhl was cautious about a championship push in spite of what appeared to be a statement victory. “Step by step, and we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The faith in the group is immense.”
